One of the few RPG's on the Dreamcast. This title doesn't have very many that it has to surpass as the number one RPG title on Dreamcast. When getting into this game, I was thinking to myself "I wonder if this will be as good as Grandia 2?" Well, about 10 into the game, my mind was made up. This game was absolutely perfect. Everything about this game is awesome. Here is a break down:
Graphics: Some of the best I have seen on the Dreamcast. The character models are great, and some are really detailed. The land and world maps are detailed also, as with the dungeons and cities. This game is eye candy, and there isn't much more to it.
Gameplay: This is where the game really shines. For an RPG, it has lots of gameplay. The battles are really fun, there is tons of magic to aquire and use, plus aquiring super moves is really great too. The game will last a good 40+ hours. There is much exploring to do. The sidequest of trying to find discoveries really adds to the game. Plus, you have to try and make right decisions, or your status will fall and people won't praise you as much. The ship battles are really fun too...more fun than the normal battles. Basically, it just has the gameplay many RPG's need. The only problem...too many random battles. But, aside from that, nothing is wrong in this area.
Sound: The music is awesome. The voice overs aren't that great, but this is mainly a text game, with some random yelling in the background at times. Characters have a few catch phrases that they say a lot. The sound is overall great though.
Controls: It's an RPG. It's going to control easily. There is not complaint to how the controls are set up in this game.
Replayability: It is an RPG you will play more than once. Trust me on this one.
Overall: Skies of Arcadia has really become one of my favorite RPG's ever made. If you haven't played it yet, I strongly recommend you do. It will be one of those games that you will cherish for years to come.
