Even though I give this game an 8, it still falls short of being the Final Fantasy I wanted to be playing on PS2. It's just not like the originals, or like the PSOne games. But hell, as an RPG, it is still one of the best out there.
Graphics: Simply amazing. These are probably the best characater models I have seen in an RPG. The world is very detailed also. Simply put: outstanding. There is no denying that FFX is one of the best looking games on the market.
Gameplay: The game is very linear. There is no world map, and when you do get an airship, you don't reallyfly it. You select the corrdinates that you want to go to, and the game takes you there! Blah! One the other hand, the fighting system is pretty fast paced, and very fun. The sphere grid was a nice concept, but I find that it made the game way too easy. You could max out your characters to where they can have any move in the game, giving no variation to any characters. Plus, you could break the 9,999 damage limit. When I was done with the game, my normal attacks would take away 99,999 damage. Took all the hardness out of the game whatsoever. And what makes that worse is that it isn't hard to do it either. If it was hard to make the game easy, that would be okay. But it isn't. I did on my first time through. I want more than that...come on Square.
Sound: It has okay music. Not the best I've ever heard in a Final Fantasy, but not the worst either. The voice acting is good most of the game, but there are some parts that are just too over dramactic. Very well done overall though.
Story: Whiney boy hates his dad. Woo frickin' hoo. Most of the characters are uninteresting. The only I really enjoy and/or care about is Auron. Everyone else is just boring. Seymour even sounds a bit gay :/ The whole Sin thing is pretty cool though. It at least keeps the story interesting.
Replayability: It's moderate. But I usually play FF's about 5 times. I've done this one twice, and never really plan on doing it again. Blah to Square!
Overall: It is still a great game, just not an awesome game like Square usually produces. Maybe their next attempt will be better. Guess we'll have to wait and see. But still, buy it. It's a great game.
