Halo, one of the most anticipated/hyped games that I can remember. When Xbox was first being launched, this is the title Microsoft hoped to push their system forward, and boy did it ever. With it becoming one of the biggest games of all time, Halo has been the favorite to many gamers alike. For a lowdown of how I feel about Halo, read on:
Graphics: It's hard to deny that Halo has top notch graphics. They are easily the best I have seen in a FPS so far. With detailed layouts (such as the grass, water and waves, planets in the sky, and even the extension of 'Halo' over the horizon), Halo is just plain beautiful. Graphics are definately one thing this game has going for it.
Gameplay: Being a FPS, gameplay is essential. Halo delivers in that field, for the most part. Pros: The levels are HUGE! And by this, I mean that one level can easiily take up to a minimum of 20-30 minutes to beat, on your first time through. Another plus is that there are vehicles, and plenty to choose from. Co-op multiplayer is another huge plus. Multiplayer is fun (even though some levels can be too big or small), but co-op is just plain fun. Cons: You can only carry 2 weapons at a time (minus grenades). I'm guessing they just wanted to add some realism, or difficulty settings to the game by adding this, but it really sort of sucks. Oh well. And I know it goes with the story, but fighting aliens is boring. Also, towards the end of the game, the levels get really repetative, and by repetative, I mean earlier levels backwards. Kind of makes the game a tad bit boring at times.
Controls: Plain and simple, on the Fatty, they can be annoying at times, on the Type-S, they are nearly perfect. But I still don't like the layout for the start/select buttons on the S. But, they are easy to get used to, and are very good for a console shooter.
Replayabilty: With this being a FPS, if it didn't ahve replay value, then it probably wouldn't sell very well and/or be well liked. So of course it has it.
Story: Even though this won't affect my overall score, I must say that Halo's story is great. I just don't like the way it's presented. Screw books! With the sucess of Halo, just make another game! Crazy Bungie...
Halo was kind of a bundle for me to handle. With it having so many good things about it, and a few bad, it was still a great game to me. But with everything in mind, I finally give it my overall final score of:
9/10.
This isn't the best FPS I have played, but it's pretty darn great. To me, I prefer Perfect Dark and Goldeneye, but hey, we all have our views. I still think Halo is a great game, but it wasn't the revolutionary shooter I was looking for when everyone hyped it up so much for me. It was nothing really original or new. But still a great game.
