Day of Defeat is a great mod for the Half Life series. It is a World War 2 mod where you can either be on the Axis or Allied side. Plus, you can be a normal gunner guy, like with a pistol and such, or be a sniper and take out people with the 1942 style sniper rifle. Basically, there isn't much to say about this mod except this:
-it uses the Half Life engine which is a plus.
-it has a World War setting, adding to the coolness factor of the game.
-it is online, so playing against other people is definately fun.
-it is quick, and rarely lags if you get a good server.
So, if you have Half Life, and want a great mod that is a free download, then get this. Trust me, you will have a blast...literally.
