I am usually not a huge fan of arcade style racing games. The only ones I have ever touched were some NASCAR games (since they were Christmas gifts) and the Gran Turismo series. When I was walking through my local game store one day, I saw that they had this game on the tv and was letting everyone play it. The guy working at the time said it was amazing, and so, of course, I had to test it to see what he was talking about. Arcade racers are usually fun for a while, but the moment I started playing this, I knew I had to buy and knew I would spend countless hours on it...
Graphics: The graphics in the game are great. The cars look nice, although not the best in a game, but nonetheless awesome. The car damage is of course, unrelaistic, but that is okay, and just adds to the coolness of the game. The backgrounds, roads, and textures are very nice as well. Overall, this is just a beautiful looking game.
Gameplay: I will descirbe each mode individualy: Racing: This is just the normal racing mode. There are a set number of laps and 5 other cars. You race to the finish and try and get first. Sounds like every other racer? Wait one moment... There are these little things the makers added in called "takedowns." Basically, slamming the opponents into the wall, traffic, buildings, etc. to get them out of your way and win. It's awesome...trust me.
Time Attack: You are given a course, and have to beat the record time given. Simple enough, eh? Wrong. You are given a time limit that allows no room for crashes, which is insane. Plus, you have to be on turbo the entire time, meaning you have to get close to oncoming traffic, drift around corners, etc. It's awesome as well.
Road Rage: You are give 3 opponents, one track, lots of traffic, a damage limit, and no mercy. Get as many takedowns as possible. One problem though: when you get a takedown, the AI gets pissed at you and becomes more agressive. Awesome mode again...
Crash Mode: Here is the mode that made me buy the game. Crash mode gives you a section of a track that has some sort of intersection, and lots of cars to crash. Basically, you hit a ramp or something, and nail the cars at the intersection and try and cause as much havoc as possible to build up a total cost of damage...and you get a bronze, silver, or gold medal depending on the amount of damage you cause. Very awesome mode.
Extras: There are 64 cars to unlock, lots of tracks to unlock, and tuns of fun packed into this game. I haven't even completed 50% of it and have alrady speant about 19 hours on it. It will last you a while.
Overall: This game is a must own, to say the least. Even if you don't like racers, you might enjoy this game. Give it a rent if you're really sceptical of it, but if you are having a hard time choosing whether you should buy it or not, buy it. The game is awesome and shouldn't be overlooked. Plus, the Xbox version allows you to play your own music while racing.
