God of War,a game I was very tempted to buy but didn't for a while. Then I gave in, payed the $50, and can't think of a reason as to why I didn't do it earlier. God of War is easily one of the best PS2 games on the market. Here's why:
Graphics: The graphics in God of War are amazing. The character models and the levels are very detailed. The atmosphere of the game just draws you in. It is just one of the most beautiful games to grace the 3 systems of this generation. The Greek setting is perfect and is done very well. A major plus in this department of the game.
Gameplay: This is where the game truly shines at it's best. The game is a pure hack 'n' slash action game, but with a twist. Sure, it seems like your typical normal action game, but what sets God of War apart from every other action game is the minigame sequences that you can pull whil fighting an enemy. Insteading of just yor normal hacking away until it dies, the circle button icon will appear over enemies when they are near death, and if you activate it, then you will be taken into a series of button presses that must be hit accuratly and quickly. If you pull it off, you are graced with an intensly violent kill. They never get old. Plus, the game is filled with violence, sex, and fantasy. Every boys dream.
Story: The story in the game is amazing, but I can't really say why without giving it away. And why would I want to do something like that. Just play the game and trust me on this one: the story is not a let down like most action games.
Replay: With unlockables and different difficulty settings, plus the sheer fun factor that the game has, you will play this game at least twice. It's about 10 hours long, but to unlock everything can take around 30 hours or so. Good luck with that though, as the game is insanely hard.
Overall: This is the best action game the PS2 has to offer, and quite possibly the best action game ever. If you own a PS2, do not pass on this game. Get it, whether it be buying, renting, stealing...I don't care. Just get this game and play it in some sort of way. If you don't, you are literally missing out on one of the best games ever made. Instant classic.
