Tetris? What's that?

Lumines is one of the many launch titles for the Playstation Portable. I had kept track of this game for about the last 3 weeks or so. So when time came for the PSP launch, of course I picked up this title, and I must say, there is just no way to explain the sheer greatness that this game houses.

Gameplay: Lumines shines above all other puzzle games I have ever played. I am a huge Tetris fan, I love Bust-A-Move, Puyo Pop is great also, but when it comes to the best, Lumines is it. The basis of the game is to create squares using one of two colors, and with each move you make, square you create, and rotation of the blocks you make, the music in the background gets louder and more "full" so to speak, with beats being added the more you progress. So yes, it is a music puzzle game. You progress through stages to earn music. It's crazy fun. Plus, the combo system is really unique and fun to mess with.

Graphics: Okay, yes it is a puzzle game. There is nothing mindblowing about the graphics, but there is one thing that is astounding: the fluid motion this game has. Oh, and the backgrounds on the some the stages looks really cool, and some even seem to pop out at you. They can be a real distraction at times, but that's the point (as in DDR), to throw you off.

Control: Lumines is really simple to control. You can either use the face buttons to rotate blocks, or the shoulder buttons, and you do the whole left to right, and move down with the directional pad. Basically, same as Tetris.

Replay: Ever since I got my PSP, I have played this game the most out of the 4 games I own. It's just addictive. I can see myself playing this game for a long while to come. It's my new Tetris.

Overall: Lumines is the best launch title for the PSP, as well as the best puzzle game I have ever played. I recommend this game to everyone, even puzzle haters, because one of my friends hates puzzle games and was completely addicted to this game. I had to tear my PSP away from his grip. So if you plan on picking a PSP, at least get this game. If you already got one and don't have Lumines, slap yourself one good time in the face and run out to your local game store and buy this masterpiece.
