Chrono Trigger is one of the best games for the SNES, and here's why:
Rating: 9.9/10
Graphics: Some of the best graphics ever on the system, overshadowed only by later titles such as Terranigma, Tales of Phantasia, and Star Ocean. While the graphics are somewhat cartoony, they work well to create an overall good impression.
Battle System: All of the Battles in Chrono Trigger take place on your *walking field*... no going in and out of a different battle screen, or random battles, which is a relief for those who tire of random, silly battles(like me). Has special tech moves which allow multiple characters to attack together to deal greater damage. Some of the boss battles are pretty tricky though... especially near the end.
Story: The story is where Chrono Trigger REALLY shines. The story is about a silent hero who decides to go to a fair one day, and happens to run into a princess(who you don't know about until later). She gets sucked into a timewarp and you go after her to get her back, and it starts a long journey that ends with you stopping the end of the world(in 1999, no less :)). The translation by Ted Woolsey is less stilted than the current FF translations and "lives". If you play this game for anything play it for the story and...
Music: AH! The music. The music has to be heard to be believed. Many people consider Yasunori Mitsuda's Chrono Trigger soundtrack to be his greatest work thus far. Excellent Celtic style. Think video game music is crummy? Listen to Frog's Theme and try to keep yourself from getting excited... one of the few games that actually has its own soundtrack orderable through Amazon.com.
Time: ChronoTrigger is short... although the NewGame+ mode and the 10+ endings make up for some of the deficiency, it's still only 20hrs or so. But it is an excellent 20hrs.
In Conclusion, play Chrono Trigger. It is an RPG classic, for those who like moving epics and grand stories and cool music.
