After Final Fantasy 8 I didn't know what to expect, but FF9 definitely threw the Final Fantasy back on track. It took everything that made 7 great and used it in the game, then it took everything 8 did wrong and corrected it. First off the cast of characters was a great improvement since 8. Every character has a open personality, and personally I think Vivi is one of the coolest Final Fantasy characters ever. Also the battle system was made simple, and fun by assigning a job to each character (like how Vivi casts black magic, Zidane steals, Steiner does sword stuff and magic sword combos with Vivi), and the characters learn skills from whatever weapons and armor are equiped on that character. As the character gains AP it learns the move, and then eventually it learns the move and you can buy more weapons. The battle system was a major plus in FF9. FF9 also has a new and improved card game which is extremely addicting. The only thing I didn't like was that there aren't many side quests, but then again the card game makes up for it. Also I think the "bad guy" in this game (Kuja) is a Sephiroth wannabe, and Sephiroth in my opinion was the coolest villain in the Final Fantasy series. Also I know I said the cast of characters is great (which they are), but throughout the whole game I just wanted to rip Zidane's little napkin thing out of his shirt. That thing annoyed me so much. But that set aside, this game is great and is a must have for all Final Fantasy lovers.
