So, it took me a while to get a Gamecube and I haven't played a lot of games for it yet, but I recently had a chance to check out Viewtiful Joe. All I can say is wow. This game is incredible.
The premise of the game is that Joe is on a date when his girlfriend is taken into the movie and he is forced to become a hero inside the movie and get his woman back. Simple enough right?
In many ways Viewtiful Joe is an incredibly simple game. It's a lot like the classic side scrolling action games such as Battletoads. It has loads of style, an amazingly good fighting system, oh yah it's pretty hard too.
The graphics for the game are incredibly well done. The cell shaded style is gorgeous. Also the viewtiful move effects are spot on. Everything from slow motion to mach speed fits perfectly.
In terms of gameplay, Viewtiful Joes is outright hard. The first level will take a few tries to get past. However, once that hurdle is jumped the rest of the game seems a bit simpler. I'm not sure if the game actually gets easier of if it's just easier to get into a groove, but either way the game seemed to go from quite a challenge to a pretty sweet spot of difficulty. I'm truly impressed.
