Most people I know like the Grand Theft Auto games because of the blood, the killing, the prostitutes, and the bad language. However, I didn't judge this game by any of those factors. I like a game for what it is, whether it is violent or not. If you can look pass all of those, you can really say that Vice City is a really great game.

Basically, what you do is take your character (Tommy Vercetti) around to complete missions which range from driving to walking around shooting people that don't like you. When you complete a mission, you get money, other rewards, and even more missions. However, you will find the real fun of Vice City when you are not doing missions. You can look for the hidden packages (which can unlock some great rewards), participate in rampages (little challenges that test your ability with weapons), and just drive around trying to survive from cops and gang members. Perhaps the best type of fun to be had with friends is trying to see who can make it to a level 6 wanted level and survive from the massive army of police men, and even the army.

The actual territory of Vice City is large. It is much bigger than what Liberty City was in GTA3. You have two giant islands to work with (you unlock the 2nd island later in the game). And what makes it better is that there is an actual map you can look at. All GTA3 had was a little radar that didn't help that much. With the giant map, you can memorize where things are a little better and find the best shortcuts to use in the missions.

Now, the graphics in the game are quite good. Everything in the game is practically realistic, and each different area you travel through has its own unique look, ranging from ghettos, to ocean docks. The only problem is that since things look so good, you might experience some slight visual bugs at a certain time. This doesn't really affect the game that much though.

The best part of Vice City is the incredible effort of music, sounds, and voice acting that went into the game. The incredible soundtrack is something that will definitely bring a smile to your face. The music used is all from the 1980's, and they picked some of the greatest songs. You will hear some big hits, such as Micheal Jackson's "Billie Jean" to Corey Hart's "Sunglasses at Night." All of the sounds in Vice City, from motorcycle engines to gunfire is another thing that was also well done. Another big draw was the voice acting. They got some good people doing the voices of all the characters. Unfortunately, I don't really know or remember all of the voices, but I can guarantee that they are good.

You will be trying to get 100% completion on this game for awhile. It is not easy finding everything because the smallest little thing you could be looking for might be in the most unlikely place. However, there is still some replay value in this game, just in case you want to experience the story again.

As I said before, most people like the Grand Theft Auto series because of the violence. However, when I first heard about GTA, I knew that there had to be a deeper reason on why everybody liked the games so much. Then, when I first played Vice City, I think I saw the reason why. It is because the game has an interesting style of gameplay that other games before it didn't really offer. For instance, I think that even the most violent loving person would get bored of driving over the same person 200 times. Perhaps people need to realize that GTA is not good for violence, but it is for other different reasons.

I gave this game a 10. Why? Well, because when I look for games, I look for games that will keep me playing for years, games that will give me a challenge, and probably the most important part of it, the amount of fun I will have playing it. Vice City delivers on all of those things, while having some other great elements (story, graphics, music, etc.) as well. This game is a keeper for any Playstation 2 owner and is perhaps the best game in the series so far.
