This is one of the few games I can recall taking my life away. I would spend hours upon hours playing day or night. Eventually, once you have poured enough time into this game your going to get sick of what it has to offer and you will shelve it for good. Here's what Diablo II serves up.
Pros.
First off I'll just say that I had the patience and enjoyed this game enough to actually develop a level 99 Amazon character (no cheats) on one of the realms. I only mention that because it helps illustrate a major thing this game does well. It sucks you in. There is so much variety in characters, skills, items, quests and locations that it is a dream come true for people that enjoy fantasy themed things. Once you take the plunge into the world of Diablo II you'll find that the controls are not only easy but you can remap them to whatever you feel like. This translates into you wasting all of one minute from going to confused hero standing in a town to mowing hordes of baddies down and being what you are, a hero. The cinematics still stand up by todays standards and they were just drop dead gorgeous when the game came out. Would you expect anything less from Blizzard? I know I wouldn't.
Cons.
The graphics are not that great but then again how many hack'n'slash games have great graphics? The music and sound effects were pretty annoying and often times I found myself just listening to my own music instead. The game can also become very tedious as many people have mentioned the constant clicking that is involved in the gameplay really becomes mind numbing. Once you actually develope a high level character you find it difficult to continue playing. By this time you're so powerful that gaining an extra level really means nothing to you now. So to that end the replay value of this game is directly proportionate to your character level. As you increase in levels the challenge is lost and the replay value decreases.
Last words.
Blizzard always delivers quality games. Diablo II is hack'n'slash made insanely easy. If you can handle grinding out levels by repeating many many actions then Diablo II is up your alley.
