I was browsing around the web and found a game I'd never heard of called Space Rangers 2, cusiosity got the better of me so I typed it into google found a couple of reviews about it. This was enough to convince me to part with my Tenner (the best £10 I've spent this year) and ordered it through Play.
The game is old school, if remember back to 1985 when Elite was released and playing the game for the first time that will give you a slight inkling as to how it feels to play Space Rangers 2. One word sums it up and that word is "refreshing" the company 1C that makes the games is Russian and apparently it's big over there, they have now translated the game and contrary to what i have read elsewhere I don't think they have done too bad a job of translating.
It's an open ended space opera come action base text adverture type RTS. So 4 games in one for your money. All four games hang together well and although the sub games on their own wouldn't compare to full games when you put them all together the magic comes alive.
I love this game simple as that, it brings back memories of how computer games used to be before the likes of Quake, Half Life and BF2 came along and banished innovation to the back burner. If you love space games and want something that will keep you busy for days then this is the game for you.
One more thing, the DVD version of space rangers 2 also includes the original spacerangers which is a damn fine game in itself. This game is defintely the best find of the year for me. Try it and see for yourself.
