Run Like Hell has been in development since the PS2 was but a juggernaut system with few good games. And perhaps if it had been released back when "X-Squad" was still the premier action title on the system, it would be worth picking up. Today however, with an almost endless supply of great action titles for the discerning PS2 owner, you should run as far away as possible from RLH.
RLH's story is a blatant "Alien" ripoff, but it works because the voice acting, cinematics, and general progression of the tale are well done. In fact, it's a shame that there's such a lackluster game here, because the story, while not worthy of awards by any means, is enough to make you want to keep going. By the time you see a certain person get their head ripped off by a monster in the loading bay, then tossed aside like a rag doll, you'll be hyped. I certainly was.
But that hype soon fades to disappointment when you realize that not only is this a mindless shooter, but it's a bad one. Mindless shooters in themselves are good things, especially when there's more than a "see this? Blast it" story to accompany it. But when you shoot the same enemies over and over again with little variety, and the core combat doesn't "connect" in that satisfying way that it did in Devil May Cry or even the 2D greats, it comes off as "generic action title #405062." To give you a perspective on things, Run Like Hell plays a lot like Men In Black II Alien Escape, but with more guns and blatant product placement. (The energy drinks are brand named.)
RLH should be a last resort for only those fans that have played everything else remotely resembling a shooter at least twice.
