Legion: The Legend of Excalibur - PS2

Legion: Legend of Excalibur is a below average dungeon crawl that doesn't do its source material justice.

Based on the timeless epic "The Once and Future King", Legion's story line puts the burden of saving Camelot upon you.  Fans of the classic tale should be well pleased with appearances from Art (whom you begin the game as, in squire form no less) and Merlin, among others.  The storyline stays adequately true to that of the book you read in high school English class.

What fans of the tale and good games alike won't be pleased with is just about everything else.  The graphics lack detail, are uninspired, and are only slightly better than an above average PSX game, and while you will collect better loot and equipment as you continue your journey, and the party-based combat system allows for maximum control of your squad, it can often become unwieldy thanks to the clunky interface.

Had the game been regulated to the player having direct control over only one character, Legion may have had fared better as a competitor to Dark Alliance's crown, and could have even served as a way to get a new generation into "the classics".  As it is, it's nothing more than shovelware with a unique premise.
