If you know the greatness that was Motocross Madness 1 and 2, then be prepared for ATV Offroad Fury. The folks over at Rainbow Studios know how to do these games, and PS2 gamers are in for a treat. This is the best racing game on the system, and gives jaded PS2 gamers a reason to be happy.
The game features the awesome ATV machines that are so popular. In this game you'll race, perform tricks, and be awed by the incredible physics engine. No, this isn't a realistic game... not really. It is, however, incredibly fun.
The graphics are deceptively brilliant. This is one of the first times I've seen the PS2 flex its muscles and not flinch. The detail in the game is incredible, and the backgrounds are vibrant, lush, and beautiful. Also, the view distance is way out there... and the PS2 doesn't even break a sweat. It gives me hope for the PS2.
The gameplay is excellent. The control scheme is so smooth and responsive, and soon you'll be controlling the game like master. That said, however, it's very difficult to win the challenges. You'll have to master the subtle art of jumping, timing your speed to get through the races with maximum speed... and the best way to get through the tracks isn't always to go full speed on every track.
There are tons of tracks (indoor and outdoor stadium tracks), a good amount of ATV's, and more racing action than you can imagine. The races are long, and the computer AI ruthless. Actually, that's one of the downfalls of the game. The computer AI is so good that some gamers might be extremely frustrated. Still, I'd rather have it this way, where almost every race is a challenge, than have it too easy.
ATV Offroad Fury is one of the best PS2 games currently available. It's so good that you can spend hours just driving around on the cool outdoor environments, just doing the jumps and seeing how high in the air you can get. It's a fantastic racer, and worthy of your time and money if you have a PS2 and love racing games.
