Kakuto Chojin is a nice addition to the XBox's fighting lineup that shows most of its worth in multiplayer.
Utilizing an underground fight club as the backdrop, Kakuto's story has more in line with Mortal Kombat than the pointless CG movies of other series. Keeping in with this idea, the game has a very old school feel to it, from the fighting itself to the endings, which are essentially text descriptions of what happened to the character after they win the tournament.
While the single player mode is rather shallow, the multiplayer mode is button-mashing fun. But make no mistake about it: this game IS all about mashing. The style of fighting contained herein makes DOA3 look like VF4. It's enjoyable enough, but don't expect any great deal of strategy to be required.
Besides the half-empty single player mode, the graphics are a mixed bag: though the game is overall very good looking, and the slo-mo camera shots are a nice touch, some of the characters are an example of why the use of shiny textures should always be carried out with restraint.
Kakuto Chojin is a solid enough fighter for those who have grown tired of Dead or Alive 3. It just may not have legs as long as that title, no pun intended.
