Ok. I haven't been writing as many reviews for my beloved Gamerankings lately. Part of that has to do with the fact that I'm busier than I've ever been in my life, and part of it has to do with me being broke as all hell. That's why I love this game. For $20, this is one of the best games you can buy. It would be fun for $40, but for the budget price, it's a steal.
If you liked the first one, you'll be right at home here. For the uninitiated, Serious Sam is a FPS in the same mold as Doom. What that means is that there really isn't that much to think about. You just go out there and kill everything you see. That's it.
There are new weapons and enemies this time around, and some fantastic new visuals. The new weapons are a welcome addition, as are the new enemies, and the new levels of action are worth the cash. They didn't stop there, though. The graphics are updated to look even better than before, with some of the outside environments looking brilliant with a lush landscape full of plants and trees. The amazing aspect of having dozens and dozens of enemies on the screen at once is back (and all that without much of a performance hit). While the game looks great on a high-end system with all the graphics sliders turned up, it still looks good with all the eye candy off.
The new online maps are great, and the new weapons fit right in with the game.
Oh, and although the game is pretty much a straight-forward slaughterfest of violence and an orgy of death, it's still got a great sense of humor. Sam's one-liners are better than ever, and there are tons of secrets scattered throughout the game.
Look… Gamerankings is all about helping the average gamer find great games so they don't waste their cash. This is one of those games that you really shouldn't pass up. It's 20 bucks. It's fun. It's pretty. What else could you want?
