Scott and I are always looking for games that feature Co-Op.  So one day we were about to rent some new titles for some good quality Playstation 2 time.  I just carelessly picked up the Star Wars: Jedi Fighter package and read the back like any other self respecting gamer does.  To our surprise, we read "Co-Op options for all missions".  I could not believe my eyes.  First of all, I loved the Star Wars series on the PC.  Now being a Playstation 2 owner, I just can't wait to see some games that really show me why I bought a next-gen system!

To play the game you first have to perform five training missions, which will take you about an hour!  Each of them explains every part of the game, most of which is common sense and boring, but there are a few parts that are helpful, such as learning how to perform the new Jedi powers and how to give orders to your wingmen.  While the training takes too long, I still suggest doing it.

After the training missions I wanted to see how the game played in single player.  I promised Scott I would wait on him, so we could play co-op and neither of us would already know what the missions were about.  At least that was the goal.  I could not resist, after playing the training missions, I went on to play some of the single player missions, and come to find out, Scott did the same, playing about five missions all the while saying that he would stop and wait.  What a cool game this is.  I only ended up playing three single player missions, because I was playing for lunch and I had to go back to work.  That night we played the game in co-op mode.  What an awesome feature this is, thank you Lucas Arts for adding it in!  This makes the game so much more enjoyable, when you like to play with friends.  With a horizontal split screen, Player 1 controls which ever craft you would in single player mode and Player two controls one of the wingmen.  However, there are some missions where Player 2 is the gunner in the same ship, and this can really test your friendship!  "You gotta keep those fighters off our back!", "Well stop flying behind that building so I can get a shot!" Ahhh, friendship!

The missions include simple shooting everything that moves, guarding a comrade while he tries to hack a computer system before running to his ship, rescuing prisoners from a space station, to escorting ships and boats to guarding tugs while they race against enemy tugs trying to salvage a destroyed frigate.

Each fighter craft, you can control during the game, is very different from one another.  First of all you get to fly a Jedi starfighter with its unique set of FORCE controls.  The most useful is the Force Lightning, which can take out a whole group of enemy fighters from long range.  Of course Force Reflex, which stops time for everybody else but you, sure did come in handy at times.  There is also a Force Shield and Force Shockwave, both of which I never even used during the game.  The force powers were a great addition, but still need to be worked on a bit.

You get to control a good number of different fighters, each with different speeds, control, weapons and secondary weapons.  The story line itself is entertaining, and the voice acting is very good.  Hopefully other game developers will see how much fun co-op games can be and start implementing them into their games rather than just the standard one on one multiplayer fighting.

The galaxy is in turmoil as the events of Star Wars: Episode II rapidly approach.  Mace Windu dispatches one of the Council's top Jedi - Adi Gallia - to investigate disturbances in the Karthakk system, as a secessionist movement threatens to expand.  Using the Republic's new prototype Jedi starfighter, Adi Gallia sets out on missions which lead into events depicted in the Star Wars: Episode II film.  She quickly gains an upper hand in space battles through Force powers, but will these be enough to counter the massive fleet of the evil Captain Toth and a mysterious figure that threatens the very foundations of the Galactic Republic system?

Sneak peek at Star Wars: Episode II thrills!  Fly the new Jedi starfighter and get a preview of characters, story connections, craft a key location and clues to events from the film.

Force powers in flight.  Capabilities that no pilot, craft or weapon has previously possessed -- Force lightning, Force shield, Force reflex and shock wave.

Single and dual player action in over 15 story-based missions.  Fly all missions co-op with a friend - or in single-player mode - in a variety of craft.

Continuation of popular STAR WARS Starfighter series.  Graphics, effects and performance enhancements - along with over 40 new craft (including massive capital ships, three new flyable fighters, new enemy craft, and more).
