ATV Offroad Fury 2 combines a decent online mode with a solid single player experience for fans of the genre.
The single player mode gives you options, options, options, followed up by plenty of goodies to unlock. There's a lot of replay value here if you get into the game, and the gameplay is designed to be as accessible as possible to make sure you do. Gran Turismo this ain't, as the controls are very simple and intuitive, and probably don't even require the reading of a manual. Even the trick system is easy enough, though this is partially in fault to the fact that there is a horribly limited supply of them to be found.
Online, however, is where the trouble starts: as an accent to the main game for someone interested in this sort of title, it works as a sort of nice-thought-but-undercooked side dish, but isn't worth its salt as the main course, so to speak, thanks to its lack of modes, limited number of players, and clunky menu interfaces. Those waiting for a solid racing title online with PS2: keep waiting.
While the graphics look rather first generation, a glorified Smuggler's Run of sorts, the music is well put together, and Sony obviously took the time on it, rather than shoving together a bunch of crappy emo/punk and rap together in a cauldron of destruction. It sounds pleasing to the ear, even if I wouldn't actually buy most of these bands' CDs.
Those into racing subgenres will find a lot to like in ATV, and even those looking for something different may just find their cup of tea here as well. Those looking for the next big online thing ought to wait for Auto Modellista.
