Rygar: The Legendary Adventure for the PlayStation2 computer entertainment system will not be available until the holiday season but E3 attendees were able to get a good taste of what's to come. Tecmo blew the lid off the highly anticipated adventure game that has been gaining buzz in the gaming community since the beginning of this year.
"Rygar will be Tecmo's premier title of the year and the game of choice this holiday season" John Inada, Director of Sales and Marketing for Tecmo, said. "When it is released Rygar will be the ultimate action/adventure title out there,"
The story of Rygar begins with the Island of Argus being plagued by evil Titans. Armageddon has spread over the land, creating chaos as volcanoes, earthquakes, and monsters ravage the countryside. In mankind's darkest hour, a hero rises from the ashes to defeat the Titans, rescue the princess and restore order to the land. The player will become Rygar and his legendary adventure will begin.
"It's all about how to make the player feel like they have become the hero and to completely immerse themselves into the game" Kanematsu, Creator of Rygar, said. "Rygar's grand-scale environments and adrenaline-pumping action will transport the player into the vast and exciting world of Rygar."
The actions of Rygar rely heavily on the use of his almighty Diskarmor, the hero's weapon of choice in the game. The yo-yo like Diskarmor is one of the most important elements of the game. Created by gods, the Diskarmor is not just any weapon, it is an essential survival tool and divine instrument for the brave hero. The spiked razor shield will be used for attack, defense, and transportation.
"The most important part of this game is the Diskarmor," Kanematsu said. "I am confident that the gamers will love the 3D environment of this game where they can freely move the Diskarmor 360 degrees."
Rygar's Diskarmor features over 30 distinct action moves that display the awesome power of the weapon and leave the player's head spinning. One of the most impressive moves is the "Snap Attack" where the Diskarmor is used as a whip to grab enemies. Once Rygar has grabbed hold of his foe he uses the Diskarmor to toss the enemy onto another enemy, destroying both with one bad-ass flick of the wrist. The Diskarmor also allows Rygar to hoist himself up and onto different platforms. This defense move is called the "Grappling Hook" and will be used to dodge surprise enemy attacks.
Rygar's adventures will lead him through several different worlds. Each world promises to provide a new adventure for the mighty hero including new enemies and larger-then-life bosses. It will not be an easy journey for Rygar who will go up against over 70 enemies during his epic adventure.
The "AAA" action title will posses a Hollywood-Style appeal with grand-scale environments, impressive pre-rendered and real-time movies, and heart-racing action. This Grecco-Roman inspired game promises to give gamers the full cinematic experience with awe-inspiring graphics and an epic musical soundtrack. The game intends to immerse the player into every aspect of the game, no longer just controlling the hero, but becoming Rygar.
