Oh, how I pity the video-game playing children of today. While in the past they may have had such games as Super Mario Bros., Sonic the Hedgehog, or even Ren and Stimpy to pass the time with, today they are being increasingly exposed to waves of horrible software based on licenses. Rugrats: Royal Ransom falls neatly into this group.
I remember the days when Nickelodeon games could be titles worth playing. The aforementioned Ren and Stimpy titles are good examples of this. Of course, this was back before Nickelodeon became MTV lite. Royal Ransom consists of little more than a collection of minigames, ranging from "mediocre" to "shoot me now" in quality, connected by a story straight out of the TV show.
To its credit, the game looks decent for a title geared for the younger audience, and the sound and cutscenes capture the feel of the TV show, though it would have been a good idea to have replaced the in-engine cutscenes with original cartoon clips made for the title. Overall, however, you'd be well advised to stay away from this game, no matter what your age.
