Tiger Woods was a disappointment for both the PC and Playstation this year. If you ask me, both versions just lacked refinement and polish. However, Tiger for the Playstation 2 comes as a welcome surprise, and brings back some of the fun and enjoyment in golf.
The control scheme is based solely on the analog stick. Pull the stick back to the desired power rate, and then push it forward to hit. Based on how well you judge the hit, and how well you control the stick, you'll hit the ball successfully or unsuccessfully. While some people may miss the ability to change to a digital control scheme, the actual control method is wonderful. Beginners can pick it up and play, making Tiger one of the best controlling golf games I've ever played.
The graphics and sounds are excellent, although nothing earth shattering. The character models look fantastic, and are animated brilliantly. However, the courses themselves are just "good," because we still expect more from the PS2.
There aren't enough courses and golfers to truly elevate the game, but it's still good enough for some fantastic multiplayer action. I guess that's what makes this version of Tiger so good. The play modes are all there, and single player action is OK... but the real fun comes when you invite some friends over. Overall, it's the best Tiger game out there for any system
