Usually, I won't review a PC first-person shooter separate from its console counterpart. The advantages that higher resolutions and mouse/keyboard support bring to the table are well-known.among gamers, requiring no second look to convince them of this fact. But when an AAA PC game like Doom 3 (an already great game in its own right) ports over so perfectly to a home system, it's worth going back to.
What's more (as in, more likely to annoy the PC 31173), Doom 3 is a much better product on the Xbox. Most of the tedious stretches of cheap encounters in long, identical corridors have been trimmed or even removed altogether. There are fewer monster closets, and enemies do not seem to randomly pop up behind you nearly as much as in the original release. Excellent use of surround sound helps make up for the loss of resolution – and even that isn't as much of a big deal as you would believe: Doom 3 looks absolutely stunning on Xbox, even if you can't take advantage of its HDTV capabilities.
Throw in a bunch of behind the scenes extras and, on the slightly more-expensive collector's edition, both classic Dooms perfectly emulated for a new generation, and you've got one of the best FPS titles on any system.
