Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu isn't the game that fanatics of the comic book icon have been crooning for. Instead, it is the same old song and dance that fans of all comic-inspired titles have been putting up with since the inception of the licensed game – a basic, straightforward beat-em-up.
Now, that said, there's nothing wrong with a pure brawler. But it has to be extremely well done, and that goes double in today's world, where gamers expect more for their money. Rise of Sin Tzu simply offers nothing except hordes of similar looking baddies. Aside from that, Batman and his 3 associates can purchase moves as they progress through the hideously bland levels, yet you'll often find there is no point in using any move but your standard 3 hit punch-punch-kick combo.
Batman's not exactly a pretty game, but it doesn't look bad either. All in all, it's best to just say it captures to look of the series, and leave it at that. The audio leaves a bit to be desired, though the voices are presumably from the same actors featured on the show. Really, the only reason the presentation of the game works is because the show's artistic style is impressive to begin with.
Control wise, Rise of Sin Tzu doesn't have much work to do, as it is a simple brawler at its core. However, it does attempt to shed its skin of simplicity by adding in a few extra commands to the list, such as the ability to use gadgets like the batarang. However, these gimmicks are easily seen through, and don't truly add anything to the experience.
Overall, Batman: Rise of Sin Tzu may be a good rental for those who love the Dark Knight. But it's not a great, or even good; game on is own merits. It's worth considering if you've always liked the comics, movies, and TV adventures of Batman, but otherwise, Rise of Sin Tzu stands as just another mediocre brawler.
