Here's a game that's most likely going to be overlooked in the rush of Xbox videogames for the holidays. It's too bad, because it's a rather unusual platform action/adventure game and worth your attention.
Graphics are very colorful and add to the environment. Not jaw-dropping gorgeous mind you, but they do set the tone of the game. Sound is a definite plus here, really adding to the dark ( in a macabre way) environment.
You play as Voodoo Vince, a doll with some unique capabilities to inflict damage on others by inflicting it on yourself. Yup, that's right, I said you beat yourself up to hurt others. It's pretty hysterical, and if you like being masochistic, you'll even enjoy this more. Throughout the game, Vince picks up additional powers and as you can imagine, the further you get through the game, the more powerful you are.
The puzzles are very strange indeed and I'm not going to ruin it for you, but they aren't too difficult to solve either. Strange but easy isn't necessarily a bad thing, ya know?
Controls are pretty easy to muster, although Mr. Vince attacks pretty darn slowly. His mad punching skillz are nothing to write home about.
I often wonder if I went to see the Patriots win the Super Bowl a few years back, if this would be the New Orleans I would have seen. I doubt it -- (hey, we need more brothels), but I will say I have a feeling this game was designed for everyone to have fun with and I enjoy it.
The game is over pretty quick by today's standards and as mentioned before, the puzzles aren't that mind numbing. Boss battles can be fun to play through, but once you've played it, you've played it if you know what I mean. Not much calling you back to this game.
The character of Vince is a great idea, I wish he was flushed out a bit more. While I'm not raving about this game, it's definitely a sleeper and one you'll probably want to rent if not buy. I have a feeling we'll see VV2 and this serves as a great foundation for a new character in videogame land.
