A pure action game in the truest sense of the word, Killswitch has both a great premise and compelling gameplay, though its short length and insanely difficult later levels are sure to put off more than a few gamers.

A twist on the old "soldier saves the world" routine, Killswitch doesn't require you to stop a war, it commissions you to start one.  It's an interesting premise, to be sure, though the game never really fleshes it out in a satisfying manner.

Instead of getting overly bogged down in such minuscule things as "plot", Killswitch does what games of this ilk do best – throw you down in a hostile situation with lots of ammo, and lots of cannon fodder.  The game's "hook" comes in the idea that while you don't have to use Tom Clancy style tactics, you can't just run into a firefight, guns blazing.
The only way to succeed in Killswitch is by making extensive use of your environment, popping up from behind cover only to fire off a few rounds.  There is the ability to fire without exposing your hide to enemy attacks, but this technique is so inaccurate that it is rendered all but useless.

The game is fast paced, requiring constant awareness and reaction.  To that end, the controls are very well thought out and fairly intuitive.  There's also something to be said for the game's presentation – while Killswitch doesn't feature the most beautiful or diverse set of graphics to ever grace a screen, they are very technically competent.  Lastly, the game's strong weapon sound effects go a long way towards making you feel like a well-trained, well-armed dealer of death, though any music is completely forgettable.

If you're a fan of action games, you really can't go wrong giving Killswitch a rental.  It's fast, fun, and to the point; though there may not be enough here to warrant a purchase.  Nevertheless, it's (mindless) fun while it lasts, and worth checking out.
