UFC: Sudden Impact may be priced to move, but as the old adage goes, you get what you pay for.
Quick and dirty is the name of the game in the UFC caged octagon, and Sudden Impact follows this philosophy to the letter. Fights rarely will last more than a minute, and it's possible to "beat the game" with any given fighter in under ten. Make no mistake about it – this is a casual fighting game for casual gamers. This isn't the deep, combo filled MMA game that gamers have been waiting for; it is a button mashing piece of shovelware, targeted to appeal to fans of the franchise.
That's not to say mashing buttons can't be fun – taken in very small doses, UFC can be surprisingly enjoyable. However, the skimpy selection of modes, skimpy career portion, and shallowness of the core mechanics ensure that you won't be coming back for more on a regular basis.
Visuals are the best ever seen in a UFC game, though admittedly, this isn't saying much at all. The audio, for the most part, sucks; the only exception being the always-superb snaps and cracks of no-holds-barred combat.
Fans of the franchise should undoubtedly snap this one up, and at twenty bucks, it may be worth checking out for fighting game fans looking for something a bit different. Despite its relative bang-for-the-buck, however, the UFC franchise has yet to see a truly great game made in its image.
