The best thing about Heroes of the Pacific is how it strikes a solid balance between the realism of a flight sim and the accessibility of an arcade flyboy title. Not far behind, however, is the flawless vintage presentation. Cutscenes and menus are all presented in the form of highly stylized WWII military propaganda, which fit the theme of the game like a glove and, more importantly, increase the immersion factor through the roof.
A wide selection of missions, planes and even control schemes makes sure that anyone who has ever wanted to be an ace pilot in the skies over the Pacific can sit down with this one and feel right at home.; and a well written, well delivered script make some of the game's more obvious omissions (we've stormed Normandy, when is a courageous developer going to let us drop the first A-bomb?) less glaring. Overall, this is a surprise gem within the genre, and a great weekend thrill for action fans of all stripes.
