Tak 2 is your average platformer aimed at kids. It's not bad for the intended audience, but anyone outside of that group is going to find it a bit lacking.
Tak does a pretty decent job of being what it's meant to be. The action is straightforward, made up primarily of simplistic combat and item collecting. There's lots of different doodads to collect, making the whole thing seem like a poor man's Rare game.
Sadly, doodad collecting and button mashing do not a good game make. The level design in particular is fairly confusing, and the target audience may have problems with the many puzzles set along the way. There are a few creative instances where the game requires you to use your sidekick to solve puzzles and flip switches, but on the whole, this is a straightforward run, jump, hop, and collect ordeal.
For a game that could have gotten decent sales on the merits of its licenses (this is a Nickelodeon game), Tak 2 has quite the impressive production values. The graphics are crisp, vibrant, and well animated. The music fits the game perfectly, though it is still sort of generic.
When you get right down to it, Tak 2 is another cookie cutter platform game that just happens to have an above average coat of paint. The Nickelodeon audience will enjoy their time here, everyone else should probably take a pass.
