Every great singer eventually falls prey to the curse of the greatest hits compilation. Sure, all the tracks on the disc may be timeless classics, but by the time an entertainer has any business putting out such a record, chances are you've been through every last one of them countless times.
And so it is with Call of Duty 2.
Call of Duty 2 takes all the greatest moments from every WWII scenario to ever find its way into a video game and compiles them into a package wrapped in a very sexy looking new engine. The gameplay hasn't evolved much, but it's one extremely flashy thrill ride from beginning to end… if you're not physically sick of World War II shooters by now.
And that's Call of Duty 2's ultimate flaw: Everything on screen is absolutely beautiful regardless of the platform (In HDTV, the Xbox 360 version even looks slightly better than the PC, and never drops below 60 fps!), but at the end of the day this is yet another entry in what is perhaps the most played out subgenre in all of gaming today. Still, if you're up for fighting the Nazi war machine one more time, the slick presentation makes this the most enjoyable tour on the European front to date.
