Instant weapon switch

New game codes

These codes require a six button controller. Before proceeding, make sure that on the Diary screen with the 4 save slots it highlights an empty save slot by default. On the title screen, hold the buttons listed in the cheat and keep them held as you press Start twice (once to open the Diary screen, the second to begin a new game) A sound effect will confirm success. For the area select and dialog viewer code, hold the MODE button as you open the save screen during gameplay to access the area list. To access the dialog viewer, hold X and Z, and then press A or C to close the menu you just opened. With X and Z still held, walk up to a NPC and press B to talk. The game will now cycle through the story text.

Hard Mode (or 1-hit death mode)

At the title screen, press Start once, then leave the cursor on "Start Game." Just like the stage select code, press C, A, Left, Right, B. You will hear headdy say "Nice" when you've entered the code correctly. Then press and HOLD START. Continues holding start until you see the "Opening Demo" scene appear. Now you can release the start button and continue as normal. Be warned, One hit is all it takes to kill you now.

Head Animations

Enable the Super Cheat Menu

Begin the game and move Ecco left and right. Press Start to pause the game while Ecco is turning. You have to pause it when Ecco is directly facing you. When you do that, press Right, B, C, B, C, Down, C, Up. If you did it right, a cheat menu that has options such as stage select, message test, sound test, and more, will appear.

Invincibility

Input a valid password, then press Start, and wait for the screen that shows the name of the level you're currently in with your password. Next, hold A and Start. Keep hold of A and Start until Ecco appears on the screen. Now press Start to unpause and you will be invincible.

Debug Menu

When you have control of Ecco and can pause, Try to pause while Ecco is facing you. Once Ecco is facing you, press A, B, C, B, C, A, C, A, and B. If you entered the code correctly, a menu will pop up with all sorts of optionssuch as a sound test, level select, tempo, etc. This code can be entered as many times as you'd like, as long as the game is paused while Ecco is facing you.

Easymode

Just entering the word easy mode in the password screen would work as a password. This difference it caused was it made certain lvl's much easier to complete like jumping certain spots in the game where you could easily lose in normal mode where no longer there. I am surprised no one ever thought about trying this code. I would always try and figure out codes and just enetered it one day when I was 12 years old. 16 years have passed and no one ever brought it up.

Level select

Start a game, the Hero and Mission screen appears. Now hold down A,B,C and press Left, Right, Up, Down on D-Pad. You are now able to select the level by pressing Left/Right.

Get 27 lives

Start arcade mode. When you get to the character select screen, hold down+left and hit A+C+Start. Nothing really confirms the code except until you get game over. If you input it correctly, the next time you get Game Over, it should say you have 9 credits instead of 3.

Select arcade mode. Hold Down/Left + B and press Start at the character selection screen. A number that corresponds to the starting level will appear in the upper left corner of the screen. Use the D-pad to change it to the level you want.

Full Magic

Enter the options menu and select the ''Special Magic'' option. Begin game play and Hold A when the music for the Bosses on levels 1 to 4 begins to play. Defeat the Boss while holding A. Release the button when the screen turns black and your character is transported to the bonus level. Do not press any buttons or move the D-pad. When the next level begins, player one will cast a spell that will increase the magic points to 255. Note: Do not use more magic points that what your character normally is allowed to use. Doing so will freeze the game.

Level Select

While the opening screen scrolls, simultaneously hold down a, b, c and start. Still holding A, realease b and c and press them again. This will bring you to the options screen. Still holding a, let go of the other two, pick 'exit,' and press b and c once more. You'll be back at the main menu. Still holding a, release b and c and hit them again to choose the number of players. Keep all the buttons down and press start. Release only start, select your character, then still holding down a, b and c, press up and hit start. You can now select the level you want to play.

Equip armor glitch

It is possible to have armor equipped even if it is not in your possession...first make sure you have at least two pieces of armor in a characters possession..

1. Go to the equip screen and highlight the armor you want to keep equipped.

2. This is the tricky part...equip/unequip the armor...when it says ".....takes armor" press a confirm button and then QUICKLY press down to the next armor below it and equip/unequip that armor. You need to do it
fast enough so that you see only a little change in the attack,defense, and/or agility from changing equipment.

3. You'll know if the glitch worked because you won't be able to unequip the first piece of armor. Now you can give the armor to another character! Who says you can't have powerful equipment like the NEIMET on just one character?

To cancel the glitch, simply equip another piece of armor over the affected armor slot.

It may take a few tries to get the glitch working because the equipping/unequipping must be done very quickly.

Become invisible

In battle, get all of your team members KO-ed except for Nei. Then get Nei to cast Nasak and she should KO herself. Then, your characters will turn invisible and you can walk around dungeons freely.
(This works in all version of PS2)

When paused, press and hold B and play as normal. The game should play very slow.

Improve late-game character stats

A glitch in the game will allow you to make either Laya or Kara always act first in battle and be immune to physical attacks, as well as moderately improve the speed and defense of the rest of the party.

The glitch is activated in Skyhaven, when changing the Legendary weapons into Nei weapons.

1. Decide who you want to always act first and be immune to physical attacks - Laya or Kara.
2. Remove all items from that person.
3. Make sure everyone else has their appropriate Legendary weapon equipped (Orakio Sword, Miun Claw, Siren Shot, Laya Bow, Lune Slicer).
4. Speak to the second from the left old man, who says "Nei is the word of ultimate power".
5. Check your status screens. For the person who had no equipment, attack and defense should be in the 64,000 range, and speed in the 220 range. For the others, the attack, defense, and speed bonuses of the Legendary weapon they had equipped will be permenantly added to their base stats. (Unfortunately, none of the increases to the attack statistic have effect on damage dealt in battle).

The only way the person with 64,000 defense will be hurt is from a Gnasher (who will do a whopping 4 damage) or from techniques (which are unaffected). She will always act first.

There are 3 side effects which may appear alarming but are in fact harmless.

1. Colours will be unusual - this will be corrected once you check your menu and leave Skyhaven
2. Last person in line will be shifted out of place - this will be corrected once you leave Skyhaven, and the out-of-line person will not prevent you from moving
3. Characters will be renamed - this is permanent but harmless.

Instant Victory

You can win a battle instantly if you have the following situation: 1. Surprise the enemy 2. A technique bearing character with fewer TP then what a spell costs (ie 4 TP for a res spell) Instead of fighting, choose the "single player command" option and have that character try and cast a technique they do not have enough TP for. You will get a message that states something like "Not enough tech points", then instantly emerge victorious. Very helpful for when weak and facing several enemies. This will not work unless you surprise the enemy.

Skip Nial's Generation

An escapipe glitch allows players to skip over Nial's generation directly to playing Aron. Aron will need to do some of Nial's quest, but it goes much faster and easier with Aron, thanks to his healing and access to the Aero Parts.

1. As Rhys, before fighting the king of Cille, make sure Wren or Mieu has an escape pipe.
2. After defeating the king, select Nial's route by marrying Lena. (Do not choose Maia as the glitch does not work for Ayn.)
3. As soon as the cinema is over and you can move, go into your menu and use an escapipe.
4. As Nial, you will warp back to Cille dungeon. Walk through it again (you will encounter only Chirpers). The king and Maia are waiting in the same place as for Rhys, defeat him once more (an easy task with full HP/TP and a stronger leader).
5. Select Aron's route by marrying Alair. (Do not choose Laya because Adan will be unable to complete his quest.)

At this point you play as Aron. The Sub Parts, Laya Pendant, Twins Ruby, and Mystery Star that Aron come with are "fakes" that do not work, so Aron will need to collect the real ones as Nial would have.

6. Collect the Aero Parts as normal.
7. Fly to the rebel hideout and pick up the Sub Parts.
8. Go to Hazatak using the caves to Landen, Aquatica, then Aridia.
9. Get Laya as normal.
10. Go to Mystoke and get the Laya pendant.

From this point on finish the game as normal.

Avoid Party Members

The game forces you to allow Tao, Ken, Lowe, Hans, and Luke to join the party before the first battle of the game. There is a way to avoid getting these characters in your party. To do this, when in town at the opening of the game there is a gate but two guards will stop you if you try to leave. There is a blond man in a purple vest near the gate and if you stand one space above him, you will eventually force him to step in the path of one of the guards. At this time you can run past and exit the gate and the guard will not be able to block you. This will send you to the first battle with only Max, making the game quite difficult. Also, even though you avoid taking these characters in your party, they will still speak during some of the cut scenes.

Get Adam without defeating Chaos

Before the battle against Chaos is over, cast egress. Adam will be at HQ, and will be battle-ready. Normally you would have to speak to him after the battle, giving you the chance to miss recruiting him.

2 jogurts?

If you put jogurt in your army and kill an enemy with him you get item jogurt ring use in battle on any character and they will look just like a jogurt too! repeat as many times as you want but you will have to get another ring when it breaks.

Anri's alternate costume

During the Laser Eye battle in Chapter 3, search to the left of the three dark elves. You'll receive one of the hidden items in the game called Kitui Huku (Tight Clothes in Japanese) give it to Anri and she'll have a new outfit.

Boost L2 level up Trick

When one of your characters learns the spell Boost and gets it to level 2, use it and make sure you get your ENTIRE party in range. This will give 49 Exp. to the one who casted Boost L2 REGUARDLESS of what level anybody may be in (which is, like killing a formitable monster that might be much stronger than you). Then, when the Boost effect wears off, you can repeat this sequence and easily get to level 99!

Quick levels for healers

Give a healer any HP restoring item (I.e. Medical Herb), and use it on themself. This will garner a quick 10 experience points for the healer. If you don't have herbs, use Heal 1 until you run out of MP. You could possibly have Heal 4 and Blast 4 for Sarah before you even finish the first battle in the game if you do it right. Also, if you use Aura and have 3 or more people in the targeted range, the healer will get 25 experience for their effort. If you use Detox on one, the healer will only get 5 experience. Make sure to do this trick if you want easy victories.

Debug mode in Sonic 3 and Knuckles

While playing sonic 3 and knuckles press Left, Left, Left, Right, Right, Right, Up, Up, Up in the mushroom hill zone, while on one of the pully things. (Just like level select in normal Sonic and Knuckles.) I think you have to do the level select code first.

Quick Emerald Gain

Enter the Level Select code twice, and go to a level/act with Knuckles or Tails in it. Enter one of their bonus levels by collecting 50 rings. When the bonus level begins, press A + Start and you will recieve the emerald for the bonus level.

Pseudo Super Sonic

In Oil Ocean Zone, if you manage to take a hit and end up landing in one of those green-and-gold checkered cannons, you'll fall right out, but you'll be moving at twice your normal speed as well as jumping twice your normal height(with twice as much gravity). A good place for doing this would be in Oil Ocean Zone, Act 2, near the first set of pop-tops and cannons. Just jump into the semi-hidden bed of spikes on the right and land in the cannon.

Note: Moving at twice normal velocity can often get you stuck in a wall. Also, this wears off if you Super Spin Dash or Spin Dash. It also only lasts for that Act.

14 Continues

Go to the sound test (not the one on the level select) and put in 19, 65, 09, 17, 01, 01, 02, 04 (press A after each one). There won't be a confirmation sound. Start the game by pressing Start on the first option (character select) and you should have 14 continues.

Get Super Sonic on Emerald Hill

First, you enter the stage select code, shown above. Then you go into the Special Stage in the stage select menu. Every time you finish the special stage press reset and go back to the special stage. Keep doing this until you get the sixth emerald. Then you don't press reset. It will just zap you with your six emeralds into emerald hill. Get the last emerald on Emerald Hill get 50 rings and jump to be super sonic. Be careful to not run out of rings or else you will change into Sonic again. The rings start dissapearing when you are Super sonic.

Level Select

When the "SEGA" screen fades, quickly press Up-up-down-down-up-up-up-up. If you have done this right, you should be able to scroll down to "Sound Test" below "Competition". The ups and downs are very difficult in the short amount of time provided, but with practice, it is pretty easy.

Sonic and Knuckles Mini-Boss Music

Make your way to the end of Act 1 of Hydrocity Zone (Zone 2). When facing the mini-boss, keep yourself underwater until the water warning music plays. Then jump out of the water.

The game should now be playing the mini-boss music from Sonic and Knuckles, which wasn't out at the time (the music was evidently included in Sonic 3 to make the backwards compatibility feature easier).

All 7 Chaos Emeralds & Super Sonic

To get all 7 Chaos Emeralds without having to complete their Special Stages, first enter the level select and sound test code. Go to the Sound Test and play the following tunes in order: 02, 04, 05, 06. You will hear an emerald sound if the code is entered correctly. To get Super Sonic after entering the previous code, just select any level from the level select and start it. Once you acquire 50 Rings, do a double-jump to become Super Sonic.

Infinite Lives

Get up to Launch Base Zone. Sound any of the alarms, so that the Kamikaze birds come after you. Charge up a Super Sonic Dash in between the alarm, but do not let go of the button. The birds will continually crash into you. After about 30 seconds, you will have gained enough points to get an extra life. Continue the process for as many lives as you want.

Play as Knuckles

When you have done the level select cheat go to the Stage Select screen and choose the special zone for playing Blue Sphere. Select Knuckles as your character and start, when you quit and go back to Stage Select and choose a stage, you'll be Knuckles without having to use the Sonic and Knuckles add on.

At the options menu, enter the opposite of the level select code: C, Up, B, Up, A, Up, C, B, Down, C, A, Down, B, A, Down. Complete the code correctly and the credits will start immedeately.

Another way to get Roo

When you fight the clown and Roo, defeat the clown first and Roo should hop away off the screen. When you lose all your lives and continue, cycle through the characters and Roo will now be available.

Ending 1

To get Ending 1, successfully rescue the Chief in Stage 6 before his health runs out. Then, at the end of Stage 7, defeat Robot Y before the time limit runs out. You will see the true ending.

To see Ending 2, manage to rescue the Chief before his health runs out in Stage 6. Then, in Stage 7, defeat Robot Y but let the time limit run out. You will see Ending 2.

Secret Items

In Stage 1, at the Warehouse Area, go to the bottom-left most region blocked by the crates in the background and press B in the area. You'll get 5000 PTS. and a 1-UP.

Also in Stage 7, (City Hall) there are lots of hidden items as well. Search in areas blocked off by the background such as lampposts, flower pots, etc.

Secret Passageways

On Stage 5, in the first room with all the ninjas, there are three secret routes you can take other than the normal route. You can access them by killing all enemies here. These rooms have more items than the normal rooms. The way to get to the rooms are as follows:

1.) Above the door where you follow your normal route, there is a white wall in front of you with cracks near the top. Punch it to access Secret Route 1.

2.) At the bottom of the screen is a very unlikely secret that most of you won't suspect until reading this. Go to the bottom center part of this room and punch a few times. You'll eventually bust a hole in the floor leading you to the basement of Stage 5 and also Secret Route 2.

3.) Go to the top of the screen and go up to the red walls. There is a certain red wall with a few cracks in it. Punch it to access Secret Route 3. Beware. There are a lot of enemies here, so be careful.

Avoid Enemy Fire

Begin the game with hard difficulty. Stay in the upper right or left corners and fire your weapon continuously in levels 1 through 3.

Enable the level select code and get a continue. Highlight ''Option'' and hold A + B + C, and press Start. A picture of a panda will appear on the ''Player'' selection to confirm the code.
